The good news is that all America visas give you at least a 30-day grace period to travel around the States either before or after your job or internship – often both! On-campus employment at an off-campus location is available to all F-1 students except border commuter students. USCIS makes case-by-case decisions for off-campus employment for students who can show that new, unexpected circumstances beyond their control have created severe economic hardship. Regulation that defines off-campus employment for F-1 students is in 8 CFR 214.2 (f)(9)(ii).
